The Philadelphia 76ers have acquired Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics in a blockbuster trade. ## What happened?
Kendrick Perkins, a former Boston Celtics star, slammed the franchise for getting rid of Jaylen Brown in exchange for a poor deal. The Celtics traded Brown to the 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.
Many believe the Celtics let Brown go for way less than what he was actually worth. But Perkins dislikes the trade for a very different reason. He admitted that Brad Stevens came out on the losing end when the Celtics failed to land Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Why it matters for Philadelphia 76ers
Perkins said: “This is a sad day for the Boston Celtics. As a former Celtic, I do not approve of this trade. If you’re going to trade a guy that’s a top 10 player, you at least have to get back a guy that’s a top 15 or top 20 player. Paul George is not that. Paul George hasn’t been consistently good since I was skinny.”
The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a tough loss, with their recent form being 0W-0D-5L, and their last result being 114-144 against the New York Knicks (2026-05-10). | Date | Opponent | Score | | --- | --- | --- | | 2026-05-10 | New York Knicks | 114-144 |
What comes next?
The 76ers will now have to try and maximize the assets they got in return for Brown and help secure the future of their franchise. Perkins dubbed the Jaylen Brown trade one of the dumbest in NBA history. He said: “It was one of the dumbest trades in NBA history. Mike Gansey, Jameer Nelson, and Bob Myers should be serving breakfast in bed to Brad Stevens.” The Philadelphia 76ers will look to bounce back from their recent losses and make a push for the playoffs. With the addition of Jaylen Brown, they have a good chance of making a deep run in the Eastern Conference. But for now, they will focus on their next game and try to get back to winning ways.
