With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history. The Sixers continued The Process after a tough 2013-14 season, and they were granted the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. They were still looking for somebody to build their team around, and they were lucky to have a transcendent big man fall into their lap. Joel Embiid, who was expected to be the No. 1 pick of that draft, fell to third due to injuries he sustained while at Kansas. After missing the first two full seasons of his career due to injury, the big fella made his debut in the 2016-17 season, and he made his presence known. He averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks in 31 games of his rookie season, which signaled the arrival and birth of a superstar in Philadelphia. Embiid won the MVP award in 2023 when he averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds along with 4.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks. He shot 54.8% from the floor and 33.0% from deep as he and James Harden formed one of the more formidable duos in the league. Embiid was off to a phenomenal start in the 2023-24 season as he embraced a new role under coach Nick Nurse. Unfortunately, the injury bug swooped in once again and got to him. The big fella has not played in 40 games in any of the previous three seasons as he continues to battle through injuries.
